For faculty, assessors and subject matter experts
Assess the intention. Examine the choices. Recognize the achievement.
An ImaginePlus certificate should tell an educator what a learner can demonstrate, how that work was reviewed, and why the decision is defensible. Assessment begins with an artistic purpose and follows the learner through experimentation, production, critique and revision. A convincing final image or sequence is part of the evidence. The explanation of how and why it took shape gives faculty a fuller basis for judgment.
“the secret of Education lies in respecting the pupil.”
01 / The assessment conversation
Six questions that keep human judgment visible.
The approved faculty guide translates these questions into level-specific criteria, evidence requirements and descriptions of achievement.
01
Artistic intention
What is the learner trying to communicate, and how clearly does the finished work serve that intention?
02
Story and expression
How do story, character, visual language, movement or performance create meaning for an audience?
03
Craft and coherence
Do image, sound, timing and production choices work together? Which decisions demonstrate deliberate control?
04
Revision and judgment
What alternatives were considered? How did critique change the work, and why were particular choices retained?
05
Contribution and collaboration
What did the learner contribute, what assistance was used, and how can those contributions be explained?
06
Rights and production practice
Are sources, permissions, credits and production responsibilities addressed in a manner appropriate to the work?

02 / Different preparation, different evidence
Two levels, with distinct expectations.
Readiness is judged through prior concepts and demonstrated skills. The level names do not require a particular enrollment year.
Level 1 / Creator
Foundational creative control
For learners familiar with sophomore-level concepts. Across eight modules, creative artifacts and explanations of artistic choices lead to a two-minute audiovisual production with sound. Faculty examine intention, story and character, visual design, direction, sound, timing, revision and production practice.
Level 2 / Creative Producer
Sustained production and artistic reflection
For learners familiar with senior-level concepts, with Level 1 or faculty-approved equivalent skills. A five-minute production, with a 4:30–5:30 range, transforms original source material and integrates generatively manipulated artistic reflection. Each learner contributes to at least one peer production and receives feedback from two cohort peers.
A record of learning deserves a careful reading.
The evidence model brings together the final production, module artifacts, artistic explanations, source and permission information, meaningful revisions, instructor feedback and, where required, peer contributions. Prompt histories and activity records can support that conversation when available. Timing, clicks, keystrokes or automated signals cannot establish authorship or misconduct on their own.
03 / Review, feedback and a human decision
Make the standard understandable before the work begins.
Faculty establish criteria and permitted assistance, review submitted evidence, provide actionable feedback and follow the agreed reassessment and appeals process. Accessible alternatives should preserve the learning outcome while allowing a fair opportunity to demonstrate it.
Faculty assistance
AI can help organize the review
Where enabled, AI assistance may summarize evidence, surface questions or help draft feedback. Authorized faculty and assessors evaluate the context and make the official assessment and certificate decision.
Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony and NAACP Image Awards references inform discussion of craft, expression, representation and production. ImaginePlus defines its own educational criteria. Official award guidance and quotation provenance are available in the consolidated source library.
